Numbers

New Year fitness resolution statistics, 2026.

How many people resolve to get fit, how many are still going in February, and when they stop, with the source next to every number and the shaky ones marked. Last checked 26 October 2026; we recheck each January. Quote freely with a link.

A note on sources. Resolution statistics are quoted so often that the numbers have drifted from their studies. Two of the most-cited figures below, the first-week and end-of-January dropout rates, are attributed to Ohio State in dozens of articles but we could not find the primary paper, so they are marked. The "Quitter's Day" date moves from year to year because Strava recomputes it; it is always the second week of January.

What this has to do with us

Loopform AI launches into this window on purpose. The thing that gets people past the second week of January is not motivation, it is a plan that fits the day they are actually having and something that notices when they show up. The coach in the app builds the week, counts the reps, says what it sees, and adjusts when a day goes sideways. Rep counting and cues are free. Here is how it works.
